Frequently Asked Questions

What is BPECC?
BPECC, Backflow Prevention Education Council of Colorado, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting education about backflow prevention and cross-connection control. Our membership consists of teachers, backflow technicians, plumbers, water purveyors, and other industry professionals.
What is backflow?
Backflow is the undesirable reversal in the flow of water from a real or potential source of contamination back to the potable, or clean, water supply. For example, consider having a garden hose in a bucket of soapy water, and having a backflow event occur, causing the soapy water to backflow into the drinking water in your home.
What does BPECC do?
Our group has advised the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on backflow issues since the mid 80's, and continues to do so. We created and maintain the Colorado Cross-Connections Control Manual which is used for statewide education, training, and program setup.
Who are the members of BPECC?
BPECC members come from different areas of the backflow industry creating a diverse council with different perspectives with which to provide information and opinions to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on backflow prevention issues.
